What does the word "community" truly mean? Webster's Dictionary defines community as a unified body of individuals, or a group of people with a common characteristic or interest, living together within a larger society. But, to me, a community is so much more than just people living together within a larger society. A community bands together with support and prayers for someone who has fallen ill or suffered a tragedy of some sort.
A community will share happy blessings with each other, like the birth of a new baby or a marriage or anniversary. A community enjoys a festival together, with laughter and fellowship, or bundles up together for a parade to welcome in the holidays. This community we have here in the greater Coopersville area is a gem unlike any other. I am so proud to be a part of something so much bigger than myself, and I know most of the people I interact with daily share the same sentiments.
I recently ran into one of my old high school teachers. I hadn't seen her in almost twenty years, but she recognized me right away. The first thing she asked was what I was doing at the middle school, and I explained that I was there to watch my daughter dance at halftime. She looked completely puzzled and asked, "You mean to tell me, that after all that talking you did about getting as far away from Coopersville as you could, you ended up back here after all?
The truth is, even if I had, I'm sure I would have found my way back. And many of my friends share a similar story. Sure, there are people that leave Coopersville for one reason or another, but for so many of us, Coopersville will always be our home. From the school system that we are so blessed to be a part of, to the city government that keeps our town running smoothly - from the tiny shop owners who put their heart and soul into providing our community with goods and services, to the volunteers who give of their time and talents - the people are what make Coopersville such a great place to live and raise a family.
The staff here at the Observer feels truly blessed that we can continue to bring the community news to your home every other week. When my parents bought this newspaper twenty-two years ago, I was just a child myself. I have grown up with this community newspaper and have grown to love the people we serve. We wouldn't be here today without your support and encouragement.
As we look forward to , we would like to personally thank all of you: We owe our successes to every one of you. Many of you realize you don't have to contribute in order to receive the paper, but you do it because you believe in our mission of bringing you the "community paper with the positive difference! We are approaching that time of year that is known for decreased advertising revenue for all newspapers, and we try to prepare for it.
At the same time, our postage and printing costs have once again, increased. This is why we conduct our annual Volunteer Subscription Drive at the end of one year, into the new beginning of another.
And this is why we are so thankful to you - - our volunteer subscribers. Your past donations have truly gotten us through the slow winter months, and I hope you will continue to show that support this year. If a "Volunteer Subscription" return envelope is missing from your paper, please use the form below to show your continued support and mail to: Box , Coopersville, MI Be one of the first volunteer subscribers and receive a FREE "classified ad" to be used anytime during In closing, the staff of The Observer and I wish you a New Year filled with cheer, good health, and a long life surrounded by your loved ones.
Most Sincerely, Kerri Snowdin, Publisher. Enclosed is my contribution to: The Coopersville Observer in the amount of: The Community Newspaper with a Positive Difference./p>

It is not surprising that they have been so successful, they are a wonderful family with so much more to offer the community than just good food! But we want nothing to do with the illegal invaders, and we will continue to ostracize them and the people who shelter them until they realize that they were better off where they came from and go back, or until they realize what a horrible mistake they made and go back to follow the legal procedure screwed up though that procedure is to enter this country.
The government does not run the USA, the people do. That is lesson 1. The government may declare that these invaders have legal amnesty, but that does not mean that they will be granted amnesty by the people! Ask the Mata family how they have been treated by the people of this community since they arrived here.
Then ask some illegals how they have been treated. And then spread the word that the only way you will ever make it coming into the USA is to come here legally. There is only one path to success in America, and it is through the Constitution. The government may have abandoned it, but the people have not. Its NOT about immigrants. There is no issues of race.
